After completing his doctorate, in 2005, he started working as an assistant professor and founding head of department at Karadeniz Technical University. Hed returned to Ankara to the Ministry of Health the following year.
As of 2009, He was appointed to the TUKMOS Pediatric Dentistry Specialization Training Commission and served as a researcher in the United States in 2011.
Between 2013 and 2016, he worked as an associate professor for 3.5 years at ACTA AMSTERDAM, a joint dental faculty of the University of Amsterdam and Vrije Universitiet Amsterdam.
In 2016, he returned to Turkey and served as the head of department and deputy director of the Institute of Health Sciences at Altınbaş University.
In 2021, he was appointed Chief Physician and Head of Department at Dokuz Eylül University Faculty of Dentistry.
Dr Buğra Özen has served as editor, guest editor, and editorial board member for numerous national and international journals and has been working as a Professor and Institute Director in the Department of Pediatric Dentistry at Istanbul Health and Technology University since August 2021, he also shares a clinic with Orthodontist Dr Ibrahim Cem Ozkurt in Istanbul.
